My first film developed from my Lomography toy camera, the La Sardina. I was so excited to see how this film would turn out. I took about three 36frame films full with my new La Sardina end of last year, only to find out the camera was broken and all the films were blank. I was so disappointed, because I took photos at far away places I visited only once. Guess I'll just have to go back and re-shoot them ;) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
These photos were taken on my holiday in Cape Town, South Africa. I used the Lomography Colour Chrome ISO100 film which was perfect for the bright days on the beach or at the harbour.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You'll see there are lines on some of the photos. This is due to that I had to pull the film out and roll it back manually under a blanket at night because the camera didn't want to roll back the film itself. Looks like this camera a giving me a bit of trouble, but bring it on! </div>

I take the Gautrain from Pretoria to Johannesburg everyday to work. I sneaked my La Sardina in to document a few photos of my journey to work everyday.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The photos are shoot in Lomography Colour Chrome ISO100 film. I think the ISO100 was a bit to o low for the station. I think a ISO200 film would have worked better. But the bright morning sun shining in on the platform makes it a bit difficult. </div>

It has been quite a while since posting my film photos. I had about 5 rolls of film, a documentation of all the adventures I had these past few months, waiting impatiently to be developed. Watch this space, a lot of photos are still to come.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This set of photos were taken during autumn in Secunda, Mpumalanga, South Africa. The town mostly exist out of the mining plant of Sasol. The horizon is mostly filled with the constructions of the plant with smoke and fire bubbling into the sky. Despite this, it is a beautiful town if you only open your eyes and look a little closer. I have to admit, the plant is beautiful at night with thousands of little lights.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
These photos are taken with my RICOH KR10 using FujiFilm Colour 200ISO film with a warming filter.</div>

<br />
Ilford, the black and white film faithful company, will be announcing two new products to their lines in the form of two new disposable, black and white cameras. The one contains Ilford XP2, the film that can be developed by a lab that does normal color film (C41) processing. The other camera has the glorious HP5 which needs to be hand processed. No word on availability in South Africa as of going to print but there are some stores that might bring them in for you.<br />
<br />
You can check out the first two films that I posted on the Shootcase blog. The first was shot in the Ilford XP2 film and the other in the Ilford HP5 film. I preferred the Ilford HP5 film, both great black and white films. When shooting black and white in film, Ilford is definitely your first choice. Get your hands on these two new products and test them out.shootcasehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04272587788190840830noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1341074158864999594.post-71806659892135359812013-01-14T06:07:00.002-08:002013-01-14T06:07:31.399-08:00The last long holiday<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It's been while since I last posted on the blog. It was quite a crazy time finishing my degree in graphic design and I've been on holiday without any internet connection. With only my analogue camera, lovely. This series captures bits and pieces of my holiday from Port Nolloth in die Northen Cape, to Pretoria and Cape Town. It's been a journey. Hope you will enjoy it with me too. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1ow68P_AyLk/UPQJsLWLLII/AAAAAAAAAb8/LqcMGivYcWE/s1600/000001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="270" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1ow68P_AyLk/UPQJsLWLLII/AAAAAAAAAb8/LqcMGivYcWE/s400/000001.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This photograph completely surprised me. And that is exactly why I love film photography. I though I had a 36 frame film in my camera and after 24 photographs I just kept shooting but my camera made a weird sound and it struggled to switch on to the next frame. Silly me. And this is how that mistake came out. Not so much of a mistake in the end I'd say.</div>

Taken in the silent beauty of Port Nolloth, South Africa. Port Nolloth is the last town before the border between South Africa and Namibia. One of the houses in Port Nolloth. The old and rustic feel makes for beautiful photographs and I especially loved this orange house. The shadows on the sink walls made interesting patterns which added to the photograph. And of course the 'burning' look on the left hand side due to exposure for it was the first photo of the film.</div>

With tis film I experimented with some new color filters including blue, yellow and green. And it turns out that I happen to love the effect it has my photos :) It took me quite a while to finish this film which makes it interesting because there are so many places I documented and forgot about it. I love to revisit my journey and with film it is even more nostalgic and memorable.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Two weeks ago we went to the Photo and Film Expo at the CocaCola Dome in Johannesburg. We attended a workshop on the Art of Photography by PIX Magazine editor, Fiona Peake. Peake showed a few photos of her own work and others who also inspire her. When her Lomography photographs hit the screen I felt excitement stir inside. It was so refreshing to listen to a professional photographer who has a passion for the art and emotion in photography rather than just the technical rules about it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I was immediately sold on buying myself a Lomography camera. I love the unexpected outcome of photographs taken by these cameras and I fully support their initiative of 'the future is analogue'. Someone has to start somewhere to save the culture of film photography.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Be sure to see some of the photographs taken by this new member of the Shootcase family and do not to miss out on the Photo and Film Expo next year!</div>

The reason for this post being long overdue is that the film have been standing on my desk for almost moth before I developed it and before that I took about two month just to fill the film. When shooting in film you plan every frame every carefully because once you took the photo the moment is documented. I like this about film because one doesn't go about shooting in all directions and in the end deleting almost half of all the photos you took. Every frame is special and even when it was a technically unsuccessful photograph, film just has that quality to make it look nostalgic and artsy. </div>

These four photographs was taken in the Durbanville Hills Wine Estate. Once again Iske Conradie and Sannika Jansen van Vuuren as my accountable models. It was winter time in Cape Town. For this reason the wine lands is beautiful orange and red color, contrasting with the intense green in between the wine yards.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I stumbled upon this beautiful graffiti artwork in Cape Town City. The photos came out a bit grain, I think because is was too late the afternoon and it was a bit too dark. I like the warm orange color, emphasizing the feel of rust and decay. The lonely chair standing in front of the wall conveys a eerie and lonely feel.</div>

These photographs is taken in the industrial area in Potchefstroom. I like shooting in areas like these where there is lost of rust, decay and warm textures. These buildings communicate a lonesome feel, a place without words but you can feel it breathing.</div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial;">Cross-processing,
also known as “Xpro”, is the procedure of deliberately processing film in a
chemical solution intended for a different type of film. As the chemical
mixture is optimized for a special kind of film, you will get unpredictable
results when combined differently. The process is seen most often in fashion
advertising and band photography, and in more recent years has become
associated with the Lomography movement. High contrast and saturated colors is
hat characterizes this technique.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 24.0pt; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; tab-stops: 28.0pt 56.0pt 84.0pt 112.0pt 140.0pt 168.0pt 196.0pt 224.0pt 252.0pt 280.0pt 308.0pt 336.0pt; text-autospace: none;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">There
exists two kinds of film: Color negative film, also known as “slide film”, and
color reversal film”, also known as “slides”. Different chemicals are used for
both these types of film. Color negative film uses C-41 chemicals for
processing. Slide film uses E-6 chemicals for processing. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 24.0pt; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; tab-stops: 28.0pt 56.0pt 84.0pt 112.0pt 140.0pt 168.0pt 196.0pt 224.0pt 252.0pt 280.0pt 308.0pt 336.0pt; text-autospace: none;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">When
you cross-process, you use the chemicals for color negative film with color
reversal films, and vice-versa. If you process negative film with the slide
chemicals (E-6), you will get slides. Although the colors will not be as wacky;
you will just get a kind of slide film with no big color shifts. If you process
slide film in the negative chemicals (C-41), you will get negative film, but
with the Lomographic burst of colors! This is because the color layers of the film
were not optimized for this. As a result, the photos turn out saturated or
grainy or with high contrast and you get all kinds of unexpected results.
Different films have different characteristics when cross-processed. Some turn
out more yellow or more green while others turn purple or red.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 24.0pt; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; tab-stops: 28.0pt 56.0pt 84.0pt 112.0pt 140.0pt 168.0pt 196.0pt 224.0pt 252.0pt 280.0pt 308.0pt 336.0pt; text-autospace: none;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial;">Remember that everything depends on how you process your film. The make and
type of the film, the amount of light exposed on the film, chemicals and the
developing process are responsible for what you get towards the end. When you
have your film processed, you get different results from different labs because
they do not always use the same chemicals and calibrations.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 6.0pt; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; tab-stops: 28.0pt 56.0pt 84.0pt 112.0pt 140.0pt 168.0pt 196.0pt 224.0pt 252.0pt 280.0pt 308.0pt 336.0pt; text-autospace: none;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Cross
processing effects can be simulated in digital photography by a number of
techniques involving the manipulation of contrast/brightness, hue/saturation
and curves in image editors such as <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adobe_Photoshop"><span style="color: windowtext; text-decoration: none; text-underline: none;">Adobe Photoshop</span></a> or <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GIMP"><span style="color: windowtext;">GIMP</span></a>; specific settings
and/or commands for "cross processing" are found in several such
programs, including Photoshop and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Picnik"><span style="color: windowtext; text-decoration: none; text-underline: none;">Picnik</span></a><u>.</u>
However, these digital tools lack the unpredictable nature of regular cross
processed images.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial;">Light leaks occur where light is able to seep,
or “leak” in, causing the film to over-expose. Some people consider these light
leaks to be artistic and therefore leave the light leaks untouched. Once when I
put in a new roll of film, I pulled the film out a bit too far. The side of the
first frame were exposed to light and caused a light leak on the photograph. I
loved this effect that the accidental light leak caused.</span><br /><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial;"> </span><br /><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial;">On the contrary, within most cameras this is
considered a major problem. The most common light leak areas are located at the
corners of the front of the camera, the seam between the back and the body of
the camera, and the exposure number window on the back of the camera. These
light leaks can be retouched with Velcro, duct tape or electrical tape.</span><br /><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial;"> </span><br /><span style="font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi;">However, light leaks in photography are
becoming more and more popular.</span><span style="font-family: Arial;"> It is
super trendy especially with so many apps for Android and iPhone, apps like
Instagram, Hipstmatic and so on. </span><span style="font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi;">In fact,
some people simulate such an effect during the editing process to create that
retro vintage look to their photos. Light leaks cannot be created within the
camera, it is an accidental effect but the Lomo Holga large format camera has
the tendency of leaking light.</span><br /><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial;"> </span><br /><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial;">This is one of the reasons why I love film
photography so much. It is these imperfections such as accidental light leaks,
which makes a photograph beautiful and unique. There is room for mistakes. With
film photography it is that one moment captured, not the one you chose from ten
different options and angles that you took with a digital camera.</span><br /><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial;"> </span></div>

Finally we are at the last day of the 31 days project. What a journey it has been. It really opened my eyes to the small and beautiful things all around me everyday. There is a picture in everything, you just have the see it through your 'lens-eyes' to open your eyes and see what makes each picture one worth taking.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This photograph is taken at the Shootcase Pinhole Photo Booth event on the NWU Potchefstroom Campus, South Africa. The students could write with chalk what film photography means to them on the black photo booth. It was in preparation of the World Wide Pinhole Photography day to raise awareness under the students of this fun medium to tae pictures in. Check out some of the photos documenting the event earlier on the blog.</div>

The photograph of day 30 is taken on the rooftop on the NWU Potchefstroom Campus, South Africa. I took a picture of my boots while sitting. The wind blew my hair in front of the lens on the lefthand side. I took the picture with my 50mm fixed lens which has a small focus. I focused on the boots and for this reason my hair is burry and almost look like a light leak.</div>

This photograph is taken in a wood next to the Mooi River in Potchefstroom, South Africa. I used the freelensing technique. This is the reason for the blueish lens flairs. I took the photograph with my fixed 50mm lens but because of the freelensing technique, I could take a macro picture. This is also the reason for the small focus and the blurry round frame seen in the bottom lefthand side. </div>

The photograph of day 28 is a picture of SW Theron, one of my friends. This photograph is very grainy. I think it is because I took it in a dark room with only a lamp for the light source. The photo also has a greenish overlay which I think might be because of a greenish object inside the room from which the light reflected. This is what I love about film, you cannot control the outcome as with digital. It always surprises you when developed.</div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 115%;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica; mso-bidi-font-family: Helvetica; mso-font-kerning: .5pt;"><b>What makes film
photography such a fun medium to shoot in is the whole process from choosing
and loading the film, shooting the pictures and the satisfaction of developing
the film yourself and seeing the images, a long time waited for, appear right
in front of your eyes.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></b><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 115%;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 115%; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica; mso-bidi-font-family: Helvetica; mso-font-kerning: .5pt;">To develop your own 35mm black and white film
at home you will need the following: Your exposed 35mm film, a film developing
tank, a film cassette opener, a funnel, scissors, a developer, a stop bath, a
fixer, a wetting agent, two clips for hanging the film, a sink of running water
and a pitch black room because photos are formed with light and even more
exposure to the already exposed film will cause a over exposed or totally
washed out picture. For this reason you can </span><span style="font-family: Arial;">exchange household bulbs with photo-safe red or blue bulbs. Purchase the
specialized lighting at a photo retailer; novelty painted bulbs will ruin film
during the developing process.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 115%;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 115%; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">If you have access to
both hot and cold running water with adjustable temperature controls, you're on
your way to developing 35mm film at home. A small bathroom can easily be turned
into a home film-processing lab with a few minor modifications to lighting and
the shower area. While converted to a film developing area, the bathroom will
no longer be usable for showering. If the home only has one bathroom, consider
converting a laundry room or rough plumbed basement room into a film processing
area.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 115%;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 115%;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica; mso-bidi-font-family: Helvetica; mso-font-kerning: .5pt;">First make sure you have
your film cassette opener, scissors and developing tank in the light tight room
with you. When attaching the film popper, make sure you get its teeth securely
under the lid. Once open, slowly apply pressure to the top of the cassette
opener as if you were opening a bottle. Remove the film from the cassette by
turning the film canister upside down. Handle with care and try to keep your
fingers away from the center of the film. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 115%;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 115%;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica; mso-bidi-font-family: Helvetica; mso-font-kerning: .5pt;">Unravel the feeder from
the film; you may know this feel of this from when you loaded it into your
camera. Hold the feeder in between your index and middle finger and cut along
the feeder next to your fingers. You can either cut it straight or angled. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 115%;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 115%;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica; mso-bidi-font-family: Helvetica; mso-font-kerning: .5pt;">Now you need to find the
spool from the developing tank. Position the spool so both of the tabs are next
to each other. This process is fairly crucial and I recommend practicing with
some old negatives in the light first. You need to feed the film underneath
both tabs until they have reached the tiny ball bearing or it’s about halfway
around the spool. Once you have fed the film into the spool, you then need to
crank the spool in a ratchet motion, which will drive the film into the spool.
Make sure you do this smoothly. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 115%;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 115%;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica; mso-bidi-font-family: Helvetica; mso-font-kerning: .5pt;">Once you have reached the
end of your film, reposition your index and middle fingers with the film in
between them and cut off the film spool. You don’t need the film spool from now
on anymore. Once you have your film on the spool, you can put all the pieces
back together again. Make sure to screw the lid on tight, and to get the film
rod the right way up. Once the lid is on, you can leave your darkroom. Do not
open the lid until the film has been fixed.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 115%;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 115%;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica; mso-bidi-font-family: Helvetica; mso-font-kerning: .5pt;">Make sure you mix or
prepare all chemicals in a safe place, with utensils that are only for the
purposes of developing or printing the film. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Remember that every different film and
developer combination produce varying times. Please check the back of your
develop to find out the time, temperature and dilution is needed to develop
your film.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 115%;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 115%;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica; mso-bidi-font-family: Helvetica; mso-font-kerning: .5pt;">Agitate (turn the
container in a circular movement) your film constantly for the first minute,
and then for the first ten seconds of every consecutive minute. Every developer
is different, some you can use multiple times after making a stock solution and
others need to be mixed per film. Check the back of your developer for this
detail. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 115%;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 115%;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica; mso-bidi-font-family: Helvetica; mso-font-kerning: .5pt;">Once you have emptied the
tank of developer, give it a rinse under a tap, remembering to check the
temperature first because varying temperatures can alter the negatives. Once
rinsed, pour in the stop bath. Keep the stop bath in for 30 seconds to one
minute, but always check the back of your own bottle for details. Keep rotating
the container while it is filled with the stop bath. When the time is up, pour
the stop bath back into the bottle. Most common stop baths change color,
usually from yellow to blue when the time is up. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 115%;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 115%;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica; mso-bidi-font-family: Helvetica; mso-font-kerning: .5pt;">Fixer is slightly
different from the developer, as it has a base time according to brand but this
base time is applicable to every film. It is usually about five to six minutes.
Rotate the fix the same way you did with the developer. When finished, it will
become obvious when the fixer has had enough as the film will occasionally get
yellow streaks and you will notice that it isn’t fixing as well. You can pour
the fix back into the bottle.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 115%;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 115%;">
<span style="font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi;">After
pouring the fix back into the bottle, you need to rinse it and then add wetting
agent. The thing with wetting agent is that you only need a few drops in there
with some water. Wetting agent lowers the surface tension of the water on the
film and helps reduce drying marks. Rinse for 20 minutes.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 115%;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 115%;">
<span style="font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi;">Unscrew
the lid off the container and pull your film out. If it is covered from bubbles
from the wetting agent, give it a rinse under the tap. You now need to pull the
film off the spool. There is no need to use the ratchet motion like before,
just put your thumb and index finger on the end and pull the film away from the
spool gently. Attach a heavy clip to each end and leave it to hang in a dust
free room. Once you have it hanging up, give it one clean swoop with the
squeegee from top to bottom. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 115%;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 115%;">
<span style="font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi;">There is
nothing more satisfying than waiting to see how the pictures you took came out.
It is as if you take the journey with your camera all over again. With film the
result is never the same. Light leaks, lens flairs, graininess and color
overlays are common but surprising. I love film photography for this reason
that what would have been classified as a faulty digital photograph, is just
what makes a film photograph unique.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

The photograph of day 27 is taken in a clothing boutique, Marilyns, in Brooklyn Mall, South Africa. This was also a quick snapshot for the shop assistant kept an eye on me like a hawk :) I used a warming filer which creates the feel of reading a book next to the fire place snuggled up in a blanket. The warming filter also enhanced the old feel of the books. </div>

The photo is taken at Minora Blade at a Nursery in Potchefstroom. We usually do our print work, for my degree in Graphic Design, here. The shop is filled with random antiques and old broken objects which I love to photograph. I like to take pictures from random angles which makes the photograph more interesting Some may feel that the photograph is off balance or have to turn their head to see the photo, but it depends on personal taste. </div>

The photograph of day 23 is taken at Warterkloof Shopping Center, South Africa. The picture consists some of the tables outside of a coffee shop. I am not allowed to take pictures inside of clothing stores or restaurants, because they are affraid that I might steal their design (and for that reason it is why I use a 50year old film camera, yeah right). So I hid behind a pillar, framed the shot and pressed the shutter. Usually I frame for a few minutes to take the perfect picture because it is film and I am allowed to take just one photo, not ten and choose which looks best as with digital photography. I am quite surprised at how clear and sharp this photo came out.</div>

This is definitely my favourite photo of the 31 days. It is taken in a wood next to the Mooi Rivier in Potchefstroom, South Africa. I love the lens flair and the orange color overlay. The focus is on the branch with the sun right behind it. One of the reasons I love film is that you can shoot right into the sun without the photo being totally washed out or over exposed by the light. I used a brownish warming filter to enhance the warmth of the sun.</div>

The photograph of day 21 is taken on the NWU Potchefstroom campus, South Africa. The two girls in the photograph is my friends Alexa Swart and Iske Conradie. It was autumn in South Africa at that time and the whole campus was buried under warm colored leaves. They are two free-spitited girls and playing in the heaps of leaves captured a way of seeing life from out of their point of view. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The photograph did come out a bit too dark, although my shutter was set to a forth of a second and my appature set all the way up to 16. Maybe it was just a bit too dark in die shadows of the trees. What I love about this photo is that Iske's hand, the girl on the righthand side, forms a kind of dove-like form, the only bright white spot in the photograph. I also love the movement of their hands. </div>shootcasehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04272587788190840830noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1341074158864999594.post-79818377981571009902012-06-14T05:48:00.001-07:002012-06-14T05:48:11.970-07:0031 Photos in 31 Days: Day #20<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
