31 Photos in 31 Days: Day #6

Photo six is taken in an alley that I walk past everyday on my way to campus. The broken wall and graffiti creates a feel of something or someone broken.

I like that the whole photo is in monochrome colors accept the graffiti in the background which creates the focal point. The perspective of the photo also works well with the interesting perspectives that graffiti is usually spayed in.

31 Photos in 31 Days: Day #5

The photograph of day 5 is taken right in front of my graphic design faculty. It is autumn in South Africa and the world around us is turning into beautiful shades of yellow, orange and red. For this reason, many of the photos I took during the 31 days, are in these shades of color.

What I love about this photograph is the small appature setting which blurs out the orange and yellow leaves complimenting the blue sky.

31 Photos in 31 Days: Day #4

The photograph of day 4 is taken on a roof top on the NWU Potchefstroom campus. Exploring and the adventurous road which photography leads you on, is one of the reasons why I love it so much.

In this photo I turned around and saws the sun was setting quickly and almost behind the hill. I knew it was now or never to catch a bit of sunlight in the photo. One of my friends, Handri Fourie, was making her way across the roof just behind me and the sun created a beautiful silhouette around her.

The beauty of film is that when you take picture straight into the sun it creates he most beautiful lens flairs.

31 Photos in 31 Days: Day #3

Photograph of day 3. This photo is taken on NWU Potchefstroom campus just outside of the eating hall. I was having lunch with friends and kept staring at these circular forms and imagined how they would look like from different angles. So distracted by seeing photographs all around me, I missed most of the conversation :)

Repeating, geometrical architectural forms makes good photographs, especially when you are shooting in black and white.

31 Photos in 31 Days: Day #2

The photo of day 2 is taken at Minora Blade in Potchefstroom, South Africa. It is a small shop situated in the back of a nursery, selling all-you-can-think-of antiques. I'm a final year Graphic Design student and this is where we come to print in the small town of Potchefstroom. Usually in a state of stress while waiting for the print-work, the adventure of discovering antiques inside the shop, chills the nerves.

Old, broken, torn and tattered objects usually makes great photos because of nice textures and it contributes even more to the nostalgic feel of film photography.

31 Photos in 31 Days: Day #1

Last month I started with the project 31 Photos in 31 Days. I carried my camera with me everyday and kept my eyes open for photos which I pass by everyday without notice. It opened my eyes to the beauty all around me everyday. You do not have to drive out to a location to take a great photo, with a bit of creativity it is just beside you.

For the next 31 days I'll post the photo I took that day a month ago. Join the journey with me for the next month.

This photo is taken in a play park at the Potchefstroom Dam, South Africa. Sw Theron and I went there to  shoot one of the Shootcase short films on why I love film photography. Be sure to check it out on the blog. I love the light leak in this photo. It is one of the reasons why I love film photography: there is no rules to a successful photograph, it is the imperfections that makes it unique and beautiful.
